Who am I? What do I want from life? Where do I want to be? And where do I want to go?
I am Melissa Core. I was born in Campbell Town at Westmead hospital on 04/25/1986. I am an only child. At the age of three my mother and I moved down to Wollongong, which is about 45 minutes southeast of Campbell town. There we lived at the Wollongong surf leisure resort in a caravan, around the corner from my Nana.
I was very close to my Nana. I used to sleep over there as much as I could and she would take me for early morning swims (very early morning swims). She would also take me to play put-put golf, tennis, and on walks along the beach. She was my big playmate. I remember she taught me how to swing (I was so uncoordinated at it), and to slide down the park pole. I was so excited that I established such a thing. My Nana was a very religious Christian so therefore I inherited her beliefs. She would make me pray every night and I still do this even now.
At the age of four I attended Towradgi public school. My Mother and Nana took me to my first day, and I still remember the scene I made. I was screaming and yelling, holding on so tight to my Mum’s leg, until I was ripped off her and put in the classroom where I met some of my fondest friends. We had singing classes a couple of times a week and we did dancing for fitness. This is why I think I loved school so much. I would get the biggest adrenalin rush just thinking about these activities.
When I was about 6 my mother and I moved into my step dad’s house, which is in Towradgi, about 3 minutes from the caravan park. This is where I still live today.
At the age of seven I started dance classes, at Jeanie Wright’s dance school. This is where I learned jazz ballet. The following year I began tap dancing and troupe work. At my first performance ever I did a jazz dance to the song CHERISH by Girlfriend, and in the middle of the dance I made a mistake and stood there and shook my head. I remember it so well. After that first performance that was it-there was no stopping me. I would stay in my bedroom all night, dancing, singing and just posing, strutting around my stuff to my stuffed teddy bear audience. And when friends or family were here it was show-off time for me. Any concert at primary school Mel was in it. Any singing event Mel was in it, and gradually, in every dance class at school, I was allowed to lead. This was the bomb to me!
In year six I choreographed the school dance festival troupe, which consisted of 7 girls. This was the first time our school had entered such an event so it was very exciting! My whole family and all of my teachers came to see my choreography at the Wollongong Performing Arts Centre. They were very impressed and I received an award.
When high school hit it was more of the same but triple the trouble. I was always out of class to do a concert or to be practicing for some dancing or singing event. One month I had bad knee problems as I previously started athletics as well so I was unable to perform. I decided if I could not perform then I would do the lighting, either way I would always be a part of the show.
When I was in year ten we were allowed to choose music as a subject. I came first every year. I play the guitar, piano, recorder and a little drums. As you can see, I have been involved in music and entertaining all of my life. This is understandable, as I am from a musical family. My Dad is a guitarist and singer, and my Mum is an actress, singer and director. I left school to pursue a career in dancing and modeling. My first job was managing a three-girl dance group, which included making bookings, getting sponsors, having posters made, arranging photographers, and arranging routines. This ended after six months because there was not enough commitment from the other girls.
As you can see, I have been involved in music and entertaining all my life. Posing and being the centre of attention is what I seem to do best. I have always wanted to model but as a little girl I never considered it as I never considered myself to be pretty enough. As I got older, though, I began to have a little more confidence and received plenty of compliments, which boosted my self-esteem.
I am a real girl but also a tomboy. I love to have fun and get all dirty, motorbike riding, skate boarding, and jet skiing. At the same time I love doing my nails, my hair, having a massage, going to the solarium, and having a girl’s night, but laughter and happiness are the key to a good life. I am also a shopping freak. I love fashion, right from my head to my toes. I am a family girl, although I don’t have a big one and we all live apart. But I intend on having a really close, big family.
My dream is to be a successful model, dancer, actor, and singer. My priorities are dancing and modeling, but I also love acting and singing so when there is an opportunity in this area I grab it! I want to be someone other than your average Joe. I want to make something of myself and stand out in a crowd. I believe in God and wish to try and help others to have faith. My family is not very rich and without their money and support I would not even be where I am right now, so I want to reward them as much as I can. I want to make it big so my real dad can see who I turned out to be and wish he had taken the time to even give me a phone call. I want to have my own clothes label. I want to design my own clothes. I want to go all the way to the top and stop I when reach heaven. I want to own my own dance company/modeling school. I want to visit the third world countries and bring them hope. I want to create a place where people who are trying to achieve a goal in entertainment can go and seek advice and help, so that they can reach their dreams. I want to build a shelter for the homeless so they to have a warm bed to go home to. I want to have an impact on society so that others realize that anyone can achieve there dreams when they stick hard at it and believe. I also want to give back to those who give to me.
